So you’re thinking of getting extensions and hopefully doing extensive research before going forward with it. I decided to write this post as a follow up for my previous post about keratin bonded extensions about everything you should know about them in more details because I recently removed my extensions.
This irritated me the most because I had to wash my hair more frequently than I’m used to and it’s not exactly convenient for a mom since I normally shower fast. By time, my scalp was getting irritated from the weather as well, I can’t exactly scratch comfortably because you can feel the notes where the extensions are.
- Changing Hair Care Routine
I hate change, when I’m comfortable with a routine PLEASE don’t make me change it. Having extensions makes you change everything when it comes to hair care, the products you use, the time you spend washing your hair, how do you style it. Even when your hair gets a little bit sweat from the summer heat or even at the gym, you have to wash your hair and blowdry it right after which was such a hustle for me because I normally air-dryed my hair.
After getting a special brush for my extensions, I kept getting annoyed that I have to brush my hair while avoiding the notes where the hair and extensions connect. I wanted to brush my hair fully from roots to tips without dealing with the apparent road bumps.
- They’ll show … Eventually
By time, your hair grows out and the extensions will show so you’ll have to change the way you style your hair to blend them which goes back to my second point “I HATE CHANGE”, there’s a certain way I like my hair to be and I’m comfortable not changing it.
I kept my lovely extensions in a bag in the closet, maybe someday I’ll attach them again when the weather is less humid and not too hot, probably grow out my hair more so it’ll blend better since my hair is shoulder-length at the moment. Until then, the only extensions I’ll be keeping are my lashes, those I can’t live without.
According to my mom, our hair is our crown. Being a teenager back then I enjoyed going against her and I managed to destroy her heart when I cut my hair one day which once upon a time reached my hips, all the way above my shoulder. She was devastated and I remember that she didn’t speak to me for a couple of days, she took care of my hair for so long and I ended it all in one impulse moment. Till this day, she repeats how I managed to ruin my hair that easy. Now that I’m older, I’ve kept my hair controlled always above my shoulder just so I don’t become my mom’s favorite Rapunzel.
After giving birth, my temporary luscious hair began to wither and fall out faster than leaves in autumn and I made the decision to cut it all. I did miss having longer hair after all these years so I started researching about hair extensions just so I have the required knowledge before actually getting them. I eventually chose to have keratin-bonded extensions because I felt more comfortable when I read about them.
I found a well-reviewed hairdresser who has experience in hair extensions for 5 years in Iran, so I went to the salon and did it. It’s been almost two months now since I’ve had them and it’s definitely one the best decision of my life. I love having the long hair feeling, I missed it but I don’t miss the amount of time I spend in washing it. Here are the things I learned during this two months having extensions :
- Use sulfate-free hair products
Now this point is something I’ve been doing before I even had extentions, I think sulfate-free hair products are better and a healthier choice for your hair.
- Comb your hair twice a day
Because the extentions are longer than your actual hair, they tangle easily and you might tug it hard on a knot and the strand will fall out.
- Keep your hair in a braid when you sleep
As I mentioned the hair tangle easily so keeping it in a braid when you sleep makes it managable the next day.
- Dry your hair instantly after washing it
This point annoyed me because I’m used to air-dry my hair after I wash it, water breaks the keratin bonds faster so you have to blow dry your hair whenever you wash it. I normally just dry the roots where the bonds are and leave the rest to air dry, it gives my hair the natural waves as it dry. Also avoid keeping the blow dryer heat on the bonds as it breaks the bonds faster as well
With time, hair strands starts to fall out and it begins to show how your hair shape is changing and somewhat thinning. Also your hair grow out with time and the growth shows where your real hair ends and where the extentions are. it’s annoying but can be managed with certain hair styles top blend your real hair and the extensions .
Ever since I went back to my original hair, I’ve been using sulfate-free hair products and I’ve stopped dyeing hair for one year as a healing period. I’ve been using more natural products with less chemicals involved and of course Argan Oil has been my favorite since it’s good for hair and skin as well.
Livar Argan Oil Shampoo
If you’re not familiar with sulfate-free hair products, you should know that the shampoo doesn’t really bubble like normal shampoos would. The shampoo itself leaves your hair a bit dry so I would suggest to use a conditioner right after rinsing the shampoo, it leaves your hair clean that’s for sure but slightly dry. I kind of miss seeing the foam build up on my hair and I would randomly create weird hairstyles with it, and see myself as a diva, maybe it’s time to buy those normal shampoos.
Livar Argan Oil Conditioner
I always recommend using more conditioner than shampoo, it moisturizes and leaves the hair with a healthy shine. Now this conditioner is like a step two to the shampoo I reviewed earlier and I feel they should go together, The dryness you get from the shampoo completely disappears after using this conditioner. I’ve been using those two products for about 4 months now and I’m honestly very satisfied with them.
Both products obviously contain Argan Oil and as amazing this ingredient is to our hair and skin, I really don’t like the smell of it. It’s not a strong smell actually, I just didn’t like how my hair smelled after using them. I would use a hair mist while my hair is still damp and that is the last step of my hair washing routine. Other than the smell, I loved those two products. I would highly recommend it just like Nashi Argan products I reviewed before, mainly because I believe Argan Oil is so great with hair as I experienced in plenty of other hair and skin products.
I wanted to post this earlier but I’ve been scheduling posts in the past two weeks trying to give the post topics more variety and also I wanted some time to use the products that was sent out if I can notice any difference.
Steve Laurant – Dusty Rose Lip Tint
At first I was a bit intimidated seeing “lip gloss” because the last time I wore a lip gloss was back when I was a teenager and I was afraid it’ll been like those old super shiny lip glosses, see how old fashioned I am ? Thankfully I was wrong and it turned out to be a really nice pink almost natural, I used it after applying liquid lipsticks using my finger and it gave my lips a subtle shine as if my lips were smooth. I love it, it can be used as a cream blush as well since it blends so well.
Theorie – Marula Oil Transforming Hair Serum
I think I mentioned before that I love getting hair products, and this came in a perfect time since the serum I was using just finished. I wish it came in a larger size since I have a very thick hair so 10ml isn’t exactly enough for me. It helps protecting your hair from heat and also adds shine which I noticed.
Dr Botanicals – Moroccan Rose Superfood Facial Oil
I’m all for the “100% Natural” label, it makes me feel safe of the stuff I put on my skin. Honestly I was afraid it would be thick in consistency since it was an oil substance but it was the complete opposite, it’s very light, smells really nice and it got absorbed quickly.
Lumene Lahde – Pure Dew Drops Hydrating Eye Gel
Lately I haven’t been sleeping well so it shows in my eyes as it gets puffy and dark circles began to appear. It was the perfect time to test this product, so per directions written I used it after cleaning my face couple of times now and I felt that cold sensation under my eyes which feels really refreshing.
Buxom – Big Tease Plumping Mascara
I’m a certified Mascara hoarder, seeing mascaras excites me. If you’re looking for lash separation, great volume and length, this is the mascara for you. It’s amazing I absolutely love it, too bad it’s such a small size.
Overall, loving every product in this box specially the lip tint and mascara.
Can we be real for a moment? Do you know the amount of time I spend thinking of an intro for every post? I’m a failure even as a blogger. Now we got that out of the way, let’s talk about my favorite product this month which is Oriental Princess Story of Happiness Hair Mist.
I got this hair mist as a gift from my sister in law after I mentioned to her that I was considering buying a hair mist from Boutiqaat, it’s a website for cosmetics and beauty products chosen by famous people from Middle East and let’s just say the products aren’t exactly cheap. Anyway she gave me Oriental Princess hair mist and said try this one you might like it and I did. It smells fruity with a hint of rose, it’s not too powerful and it doesn’t effect your hair in any way except obviously makes it smell amazing.
She gave me this fruity one named Forever Bright as the Oriental Princess hair mist line offers more scents, here’s the Amazon page in case you are more comfortable getting it from there even though it’s cheaper from the original website. Have you ever tried Oriental Princess products before ?
I finally reactivated my subscription to Glossybox and I’m so happy to receive those boxes again, I really miss this. December box came a little late, in fact came together with January box but I’m not going to complain.
Laura Geller – Easy Illuminating Stick in Ethereal
I’ve been introduced to Laura Geller products before when I tried Birchbox I’ve been using that highlighter for awhile now so I was happy seeing this stick from this brand. It’s definitely easy to use, just glided on my cheekbones and then I blended it with a brush since I didn’t have a sponge but it worked well. It’s the right amount of shimmer that I need for my everyday look.
Beauty For Real – I-Line 24-7 Eyeliner in Platinum Blonde
I’m not exactly comfortable trying such bold colors for my eye makeup but in the spirit of changing, I’m willing to try it out if I want to look a little bit extra for a girls night out. It’s waterproof so it won’t budge easily.
Ignore my sophisticated nail polish … design ?
Show Beauty – Riche Grooming Balm
I love me some hair products, anything that helps with my abused hair makes me happy basically. The formula of this product is really light so it doesn’t leave your hair looking greasy, also it smells nice.
Makeup Drop – Original
I never really understood those silicon thingies, I tried liking them but I couldn’t. Maybe because I’m more old fashioned, I just can’t like them. They have more pros compared to normal sponges as it doesn’t absorb the foundation and can be cleaned easily, but I wouldn’t really use it so I’m going to give it to my sister (I recommend reading Lise’s post about this).
Omorovicza – Queen of Hungary Mist
This was an instant love for me, it smells absolutely amazing. I used it instead of my usual toner before applying my makeup and then after since my makeup setting spray Urban Decay All-Nighter doesn’t exactly have the best scent. I don’t why the scent of this mist is so refreshing and calming, it’s light and I can say rose-y. I could definitely see myself getting addicted to this, I will buy it that’s for sure.
Overall, feels so good to receive this subscription box again as it’s been my favorite for quite sometime. I would say the Laura Geller highlight stick and the Queen of Hungary mist are my favorite products in this box. Have you ever used those products before, let me know what do you think.
Recently I’ve dyed my hair back to black after being blonde for almost 3 years, I’ve done Brazilian treatment and recently did a protein treatment as well. I can say I’ve pushed my hair’s boundaries, I’ve damaged my hair too much so I would consider myself well-informed with all the hair damaging procedures. I won’t call myself a hair expert but I think I can honestly say what’s real and what’s not in the book of hair myths, so here’s my take on the truths of these myths.
- Dyeing your hair too much will make you bald.
If I got a dollar for every time I heard this sentence, I would be rich. The truth in this myth is that, your hair will fall out but not THAT much that you would be bald.
- Trimming your hair will make it longer.
I don’t know the logic of this myth exactly, I mean technically you are cutting your hair so obviously it’ll be shorter. Here’s my take on this one, cutting the ends of the hair to eliminate the split ends or any breakage happening will make your hair look better OBVIOUSLY … but it won’t make your hair all the sudden grow faster.
- Fancy hair products work better for your hair
I’ve tried a massive variety of hair products, and I do mean a looooooooooooooooot. Here’s what I found out, hair products don’t help your hair as much as food does. It’s all about what you eat, this is why those hair pills are getting popular. They give you the nutrition that you can originally get from food but in more focused levels.
And always remember conditioner is your best friend whether in make your hair silky smooth or using it as a shaving cream (trust me it works perfectly).
