Make My Day

When a friend or family member is having a bad day, it’s hard to know what you can do to really help. Your instinct may be to send a meaningful text message or give them a hug, there are actual science-backed ways to help turn someone’s day around that eliminate a lot of guesswork. For example, if your coworker is feeling flustered, you can offer to go on a walk with them to make them feel better. Light exercise releases endorphins, which helps calm people down.

Or, you can order your friend something yellow, like flowers, which is associated with optimism and positivity, to cheer her up. In fact, just wearing yellow can brighten anyone’s mood (So if you’re not feeling up to snuff, change into something yellow) Of course, in the end, just being there to embrace a bad day with a friend can be meaningful enough because that’s sometimes all you can do. You can still enjoy chocolate or start a gratitude list together, and know that tomorrow will be better.

In my personal opinion, I believe aromatherapy helps in boosting your mood whether you like using essential oil diffuser or candles. Now we all agree that happiness is temporary but maintaining a good mood helps in that feeling, I honestly believe certain scents make me smile even when I’m feeling low. Here’s my personal favorite candle scents that always make my day:

  • Moss and Mint: I got this combination in a candle send in an OwlCrate and I absolutely love it, it makes me relax to be honest even without lighting it.
  • Gardenia Trees and Fresh Bamboo: Yes I confess, nature scents makes my anxiety levels low that’s why most of my favorites are related to nature. I got a candle from Bath & Body Works and it’s been my favorite ever since, it smells like the air fused with a light floral scent and bamboo.
  • Cherry Blossom: I love everything with the Japanese cherry blossoms, I go for shower gels, lotions, candles and perfumes. It’s not too powerful and just the right amount of lightness.

I’m pretty sure there are plenty more scents I could add in this list but these are my personal top 3 which I consider my mood boosters. Let me know what are your ways to make your day.

I originally wanted to post it as habits I want to catch on but I saw Lise’s post about August Goals and thought I would do the same but more of a long term goal instead of monthly so here it goes …

Return to developing games. I wanted to post about this before, so I used to love creating games, mostly for fun but I enjoyed the thrill of it. It made my imagination run wild of how the story flow and setting the environment of the game, I loved messing with the scripts because it gave me the opportunity to learn new programming languages and understand the work of gaming engines. I really want to go back in developing games and bettering my programming skills.

Use moisturizing creams and lotions more often. I have a bad habit of neglecting my skin health and it shows that my skin seem too dry. I need to change that and get used to applying creams and lotions so that my skin seem less dry at least not just my face.

Cut out soda drinks. I buy snacks from time to time that I munch on when I’m watching something at night and I always go for soft drinks, I fill up the fridge with such drinks and it’s definitely not healthy. I need to exchange those drinks to fruity drinks perhaps or something more organic.

Crossing my fingers I can achieve those goals soon, what are your long term goals ?

But I Like Being Alone …

I’ve had this heated debate with a coworker about this so I decided to post it on my blog and see what you readers would think about this.

I personally think that having an alone time to spend with yourself is good for your mental health so sometimes I would disconnect from the world and have some peace and quiet thinking alone. I don’t really need someone to be there for me, I don’t need someone to help me if I had some issue unless it’s a big deal obviously but I’m okay with it, I just like my personal space. It’s not like I don’t trust my friends or anything, maybe because I’m an introvert but I think it’s completely fine when someone just wants to be alone.

Now the other side of this argument as the coworker was saying that it’s wrong and you should be there for that person who just asked you to be alone and I would disagree with it to an extent because if I know the person is just going through some personal problems they’ll either talk about it if they want to or keep it to themselves and deal with it on their own. I won’t be upset if a close person to me told me that they want their alone time because I’m not the kind of person who would pressure someone to talk to me.

Some people take this as an insult and a bit too personal like “Why aren’t you telling me what’s wrong, why don’t you trust me” I get that but I don’t mean it that way, I just like being alone sometimes … It’s quite simple really, not exactly complicated.

I would love to think what you think about it, do you agree or disagree ?

Thank you for reading and have a nice day.

Albums That Changed My Life – Pt 2

It took me time to write this post since I published the first part by the beginning of the month since this part was my dark times. I stopped the previous post by the Britney Spears album and it was around ninth grade now this is when I started to game more and practically married PS2. By that time I was really into Fatal Fatal series to be more precise the second part Crimson Butterfly and that’s when I got introduced to Japanese music so by 10th grade I was into…

Tsukiko Amano – 天龍 (Tenryuu: Heaven Dragon)

Tsukiko Amano was probably the first Japanese artist I was into and then I continued to explore J-pop and got into BoA, Utada Hikaru and Mika Nakashima. Apart from these artists, I started playing Final Fantasy X-2 and discovered one of my favorite artists which was Jade Villalon and I was obsessed with every album she released. The album that mostly influenced me and I related to the most was..

Sweetbox -Jade

I love every track in this album and I still love repeating this album whenever I miss Jade’s music. Her lyrics always seemed to describe every moment I was going through during the time I listen to one of her songs so I would say all her albums got an impact on my life even after she left Sweetbox, I practically grown with her music from teen to young adult.

Moving on to college years, I was getting into anime and J-pop more. I found YUI and her passion for music, made me love the guitar and I was obsessed with her lyrics (after reading the translation of course)

YUI – I Loved Yesterday

This album is my all-time favorite along with Can’t Buy My Love, these two albums will forever be on the top of my J-pop albums list.

Now the next two albums were both released as a Best album and I chose them because they both contain most of my favorite songs of this artist and they are …

Kana Nishino – Love Collection ~Mint & Pink~

I know some people call her Kana Swiftino because of her lyrics but I honestly liked her music. I would say generally Japanese music took over my  years in college and then something personal happened to me which made me lose my interest in Japanese and Korean music. I was also going through depression which made me drop out of college so naturally I would switch to something more fitting..

Our Last Night – Oak Island

I started to get into more rock bands but also alternative like Digital Daggers mostly my favorite album The Devil Within so I would say this album and Oak Island are on the same time. I was recommended this album by a really close friend of mine and I’m glad I listened to him.

Digital Daggers – The Devil Within

These two albums were the highlight of the year after college, probably because it described my personal struggles and feelings perfectly.

Now finally to my recent obsession …

Bring Me The Horizon – That’s The Spirit

Love love love this album, speaks perfectly for me and I love every track of it. It has the perfect blend of angry and soft rock, and show off Oliver’s vocals flawlessly, I highly recommend checking it out.

I guess that’s it, I wanted to mention more albums honestly because I’m a total music addict but these are the most notable ones I can say that affected my life in one way or another. Let me know in the comments what albums that changed your life ?

Have a great day

Albums That Changed My Life – Pt 1

Happy new year everyone !

I don’t really understand why everyone sees 2016 as a bad year, I would consider it as my favorite year because I feel I grew as a person when I became a mother. I think the parts I hate mostly are going through the baby blues as it progressed to postpartum depression, the emotions I had to go through let alone the tears that came out for no logical reason at all. Ironically these parts are the ones that changed me drastically and I realized how childish I was before.

So in the spirit of kicking myself for being too silly when I was younger, I decided to write about the albums that changed my life. Well, technically shaped my personality from the angsty emo teen to being a mother who still watches Pokemon.

If I go way back, I’ll probably mention few Arabic music since my grandfather used to play the Oud and sing whenever the family gathered but I remember few songs my mother used to play in the car and made us sing along.

Moving on to my preteen years, I started listening to more English music and of course the next album is the one that every 90s girl would know.

Spice Girls – Spice

I remember I bought a Sony Walkman (like this one) and I really wanted to listen to music on a road trip from Jordan to Syria so my father stopped at some music store on the way and I took the cassette of this album because it looked interesting. I instantly became a fan of the Spice Girls and bought to next album Spiceworld and then Greatest Hits later on, I honestly still listen to their songs.

Now entering my teen years, I was forced into a public school and had to use the bus. The driver kept repeating one song throughout the whole ride, most of the girls were complaining because of it but it got lodged in my head and I heard the full album.

Blue – All Rise

Don’t get me wrong, I was into Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC but Blue got a special place in my heart. Of course every girl go through the boy band phase, Let me know which was your favorite boy band ?

Around the same time, my cousin made me listen to an album that SUPPOSEDLY rated 18+ because of the language, and you know how we kids do whatever we can to pretend we are adults.

Madonna – American Life

I guess my rebel phase started here because I officially learned how to swear and curse, or so I thought. Later the angst and rage of a teen was introduced so my music also shaped to fit that stage.

Linkin Park – Hybrid Theory

Yes I’m into Linkin Park and still is.

By that time I was listening to this album and also Meteora but mostly Hybrid Theory that’s why I chose it, I mean who didn’t blast “Runaway” and shouted the lyrics in the middle of the night?

During these years I was also into Britney Spears because every teen girl is, don’t deny it. So by the end of middle school, the cool girls were saying how amazing her song with Madonna “Me Against the Music” and I wanted to be cool so I repeated that song non-stop till I memorized it … and bragged about it, *sigh* young me, don’t go full stupid.

Britney Spears – Greatest Hits: My Prerogative

I remember my father was so against me buying this album because she shows too much skin. It was a solid album of her best songs to be honest, it was my favorite for awhile.

Anyway, I’ve dragged this post for too long that’s why I’m stopping it here and I’ll post the second part soon hopefully since the next part will include my highschool to college years and they were all over the place of my choice in music.

Hope you enjoyed this post, I really want to know what albums changed your life so please comment below.

27 Lessons

Yesterday was my birthday, honestly sometimes I forget how old am I really. Here’s an embarrassing confession, I sometimes use a calculator to remind myself what’s my age that year. So I’m 27, I would say that I feel quite old but I think compared to my glory early 20s I’m definitely much wiser. That’s why I decided to write 27 lessons I learned during my 27 years on this earth.

  1. You bring your own happiness and sadness. It’s something I learned from my husband, your life is shaped by your own choices and will, so if you want to be happy you’ll find a way to happiness even if life hits you sometimes.
  2. Love isn’t the only thing that function a relationship. I feel I was naive before in the past relationships I had, thinking that love is the most important component in a relationship but it’s not, there’s much more than that.
  3. Hypocrites will forever be around you. They are always around, some are even related to you.
  4. Real friends will talk shit about you .. in front of you not behind you.
  5. Sometimes you got to take a leap of faith when you are confused about your life. At some point, you’ll question everything in your life, like you are going through a mid-life crisis. You just need to go with the flow and take a leap of faith.
  6. You are never too old to do something you like. Age doesn’t define how you should live your life.
  7. Me time is a must. Sometimes you just need to stop time and breath, this is why I think me time is important.
  8. Siblings are the best friends you’ll ever have. We fight, we laugh, we cry, siblings will always be your best friend.
  9. Making friendships after school are almost impossible. I don’t know why but for some reason I stopped trying to befriend some people and just keep them as acquaintances.
  10. What you studied in college/university, doesn’t always end up to be your job. I know it’s hard hearing how you wasted 4 years of your life studying a major and then ending up working on something totally unrelated to that but it happens.
  11. Your grades don’t define how successful you are. I really hate when some people go on a rant that they got straight A’s and they deserve better jobs because of that. Life doesn’t care about your grades … just saying.
  12. Being a parent will change your life. I didn’t really notice this but a lot of people I know are telling me that I’ve changed so much since I became a mother.
  13. Spending money at the beginning of the month and then being broke in the last two weeks. Going to a fancy restaurant with fresh salary in your account then noodles two weeks later.
  14. Keep your life away from social media. With everyone wired to the internet, everyone likes to show off what they are wearing, what they are eating, who are they dating, gifts they received, stuff they bought and I honestly don’t like that. I mean your personal life should be private not for any stranger to start observing.
  15. It’s okay to cry every once in a while. Life gets hard sometimes and believe me crying helps.
  16. Cut off negative people from your life. They depress you and ruin your mood so why keep them in your life ?
  17. At some part of your life, you’ll deal with bullies. I feel like bullies are a special chapter in anyone’s life, you can either learn to deal with them or let it affect the rest of your life.
  18. Love yourself before trying to make someone love you. We compare ourselves to others way too much, we need to realize that we are good enough even if we think we are not.
  19. You’ll understand your parents when you are older. I’ve always thought my parents were hard on me at some points of my life and maybe even hated me but as I grew up I understood what they were thinking when they punished me or treated me in a certain way.
  20. Spoil yourself sometimes. I go with the motto “This makes me happy and deserve to be happy therefore I’m going to buy it”
  21. Go out of your comfort zone. Stepping out of your safe zone to try something totally out of character can help you realize new traits you had but never knew before.
  22. People will use you. People are users, it’s a universal fact and you can’t really avoid them because they sometimes take a form of a friend.
  23. Haters will always be below you. As you progress in life, you’ll have few haters but they are always below you and from what I’ve experienced so far, they are always jealous of you even if they don’t admit it.
  24. Weekends pass in a blink of an eye. It’s depressing but … Weekend slow down please ?
  25. Searching viral trends meaning on urban dictionary. I don’t want to say I feel old but sometimes I have to search what certain terms I read online mean.
  26. Forgetting people’s names. I can’t believe I keep forgetting people names whom I knew few years back
  27. Always be thankful.
