2 Hours into I Am Setsuna

I’ve been asked by a friend to try this game because it looks like the old school JRPG we used to love and I’m honestly too obsessed with the music already.

The story, set in a land gripped by perpetual winter, follows a mercenary and his charge, a maiden named Setsuna who must offer herself as a sacrifice at a sacred shrine to appease hostile demons. The story’s central theme is sadness.

The first thing attracted me to the game is the music, it’s so beautiful. The transition from bittersweet melody to cheerful goes really smooth like it’s one whole track and looping. The gameplay is exactly like the 90s JRPG with active time battle same as Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger and it made me so giddy almost to the point I wanted to scream “BEST GAME I PLAYED IN AGES”. The only I didn’t like about this game is the objective of the missions isn’t stated anywhere, what I mean by that is when I save the game and play it on the next day I already forgot what was I supposed to do or go to unless I’m being stupid and it was obvious all along. In my opinion, there were parts of the storyline that reminded me of Final Fantasy X with Yuna’s story. There’re few similarities with Setsuna and Yuna characters, Maybe this was just me.

Overall, the game definitely will take any JRPG gamer through nostalgia lane because it takes every element that makes a great JRPG into one solid game. I am looking forward what the game has more to offer. Have you played this game yet ? What are your thoughts about it?
